Director’s Statement
I’ve met people who lie like it's breathing, twisting shared moments so convincingly I’d question my own grip on reality. They’d spin tales with such conviction, believing their own distortions, and if no one called them out, their versions veered into wild fiction. It got me thinking: why lie when there's nothing to gain? And if petty fibs come that easy, what happens when the stakes skyrocket, life or death on the line? Could lies, or even darker choices, become fair game at any price? That flipped a switch in me: what’s my breaking point? How far would I stretch the truth, or my morals, to shield myself or someone I love? Could I stomach living a lie, and what would I excuse to survive?
WHAT LIES WITHIN YOU?
After reflection I approached Oscar Millar and spilled my thoughts on liars who warp reality. He fired back with tales that mirrored mine, eerie echoes of self-made truths. Then it hit me: what if we're the deceivers, swallowing our own fabricated gospel? Truth? It's a slippery beast. Our lives are warped by the subjective lens we can't escape.
Lies Within Us isn't some moral tug-of-war over fact versus fiction. It’s a psychological thriller, swaying on horror’s edge, daring you to step into each character’s frayed shoes and wrestle with: "What would I do?"
The answers twist like a knife, lingering long after the screen fades, urging you to peel back your own layers and face what festers inside.
